In the words of the artist:
The color blue has always had great symbolism in art:
"In art, blue has always been more than just an arbitrary color with which surfaces are filled, contours are drawn and other colors are contours are drawn and other colors are invited to interact. "Blue", that is the color that is - as a counterpart to yellow and orange tones - as cold and, with regard to perspective, as a background color. is considered. Thus, it advances to the symbol of longing and vastness. "Blue", however, is also the color that in the Middle Ages stood for heaven, for God and angels." (Schirn Kunsthalle, July 2020)
There is also a "blue phase" in my work, it was at the beginning of my involvement with woodblock printing from 2010, in which I was also strongly inspired by the art of Japanese woodblock prints, including artists such as Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 - 1858). Most of my works at that time showed water: seascapes, scenes of rivers and waterfalls. AT the beginning of the year 2023, I felt the desire to revisit this phase and combine it with my most current color palette: After a long abstinence of the color blue in my paintings, I chose a completely new and unexpected color combination in the second half of 2022, which also includes three very striking blue base tones.
The result is the work "Seen through the waves" (40 x 50 x 3 cm), a tribute to the color blue, the to the color blue, the sea, the mountains and to traditional, culturally transcending landscapes. my technique of painting and woodcut, which has become a kind of trademark.
